BLOG POST #6:Falling In Love with Anime Characters.

Have you ever experienced loving an anime character? Well based on my experience, I've encountered that, and I often wonder why? Because I find some of the anime characters cool and cute and also they have pleasing personalities and traits. Also, sometimes you like the character based on how you can relate to the character. In Japan there are cases that a guy has an anime character for a girlfriend but that is based on my research.

When I was looking for an article and I accidentally click this link and I found this article which is entitled "Why Some Men Love 2D Girls More Than 3D Girls? Psychology Explained" by "REI". I was interested in this because you discover here why people like anime characters, in which I can relate to.

Even though anime is more attractive, adorable, cute, and lovable than real humans, you need to pick which one you’ll love more, the real human that can hurt you and cheat on you or a man-made but he/she can love you just how do you expect him/her for to? I think idolizing an anime character is not bad but having an affair with an anime character is a big laziness. I think humans loving 2D girls are higher standard, and based on this article some of the boys are committed to this 2D girl because they can do whatever they want like "sex" and also for them to have fun. On the other side, for the real girls they can't do what 2D can do because a true person is more sensitive and I know that 2D is only a technology that’s not capable for a true human.

Even though other people in love with an anime there are also step to avoid loving an anime character and this article entitled "How to Stop Loving an Anime Character by Max Hildebrandt, Dave Crosby, Glen Matthias Oakley, Bo", read this and learn how to stop being in love with fictional characters.

In the article, the author examined seven steps on
how to stop being in love with fictional characters. They are the following:

  • Realize that anime character are not real.
  • Watch less television.
  • Stay away from computers.
  • Get rid of any character memorabilia.
  • Print out a picture of the character you are in love with.
  • Look for an anti fansite of your loved character.
  • If  at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

I can say to this article is liking an anime characters is okay but to much liking to it is a big no, no, and in order for you to understand always think to this saying "Man is for man, Human is for human", meaning you must know your limitation because human is not capable for anime.

I conclude that developing an admiration to an anime character is the only natural thing for some people, those characters are what they are looking for or the fantasy persons they want to meet. And based on my friend Christopher Clifford Dumala, it is not bad it's fun and, he's dreaming and, he never cheats. Therefore liking an anime is not bad but loving an anime to the point that you treat it as your girlfriend is not good even though it gives happiness to you. So now, which one would you prefer? A 2D girl that you could do anything you want or a real girl that's always there when you need comfort? Always remember that you have your limits.

BLOG POST #5:Anime Dubbing in The Philippines.

As an anime lover, can you imagine Japanese anime without a dubber? Where you can understands the language? Even though we can use subtitle, it's hard for us to observe the movement of the character and sometimes we are lost of track of what is happening in an anime episode, because instead of watching we are concentrating in the subtitle for us to know what are they saying.

This article entitled "About Dubbing The Low Down on: Dubbing", In this article, it talks about the life of a dubber in the Philippines. According to Urge Macleod one of the dubber in the telesuccess company, in his article gives us a useful information about what dubbing is like in their company.

In this article we are going to learn the working condition of a dubber where they have 5 working days which usually start at 5am in the morning and ends in 6pm in the evening. Usually 3-4 episode of anime is finished in a day but it also depends upon the availability of the script. 2-3 hour is used for a quick dubbing.

In their company they have 2 rooms with a dubbing room, the technical and the dubbing room. The technical room is where the equipment is placed and the dubbing room is where the dubber sits and delivers their lines.
I also learned some term used by the dubbers like :
  • PICK-UP: When a dubber can’t make it to a dubbing session, they will have to dub
without him and he will have to dub his part later.
  • CURE: When a line is dubbed but has a flaw, whether it be quality or content wise, it is redubbed.
  • OFF-MIKE: When a dubber’s voice doesn’t register on a microphone level equal to the rest. Usually means the dubber has to redo the line.
  • EP CLOSED: If the dubbing session goes well and there is no pickup to be done, all lines are dubbed, then the ep is closed and ready for mixing.
  • TRACK2: All voices that need special effects like monsters are dubbed on track2 and is indicated on the tech’s copy of the script. Also, voices that need to be heard at the same time as the dialog are done in track2 like crowds [running townspeople, students in a classroom, market crowd, etc.]. As much as possible, dialogues are done on track1 but sometimes in pick-ups have to be done on track2.
  • M/E: Music and Effects. When an ep is mixed, track1 & 2 are integrated into 1 track and the other track is for music and effects.
  • CHARACTER: On the monitor screen there is an indicator or a counter. This is displayed because it shows when the tape is rolling or recording, and therefore should tell the dubber when he’s supposed to jump in. Sometimes this feature is turned off, especially when the mouth of the character talking is at the bottom of the screen.
  • SAME QUEUE: When a line has to be redone from the beginning.
  • CALL TIME: The time when the dubber should be at the studio.
  • SYNCH: When a script written line is perfect, meaning the time of delivery “synchronizes” with the duration, from the opening to the closing of the character’s mouth.
  • STRETCH/TIGHTEN: When a line is messed up but the line is synched, the line must be stretched or tightened. This means the delivery of the line was either too slow or too fast.
A work of a dubber is really hard, because first you should have many consistent voices like for example: a male dubber must know how to talk like a kid, a teenager, an old man and etc. same also for the female dubber. Second, you should also know how to make a line on the spot because sometimes scriptwriters misses to write some lines. Third is the timing you should know when you will speak. The delivery of a line begins when the character's mouth opens and end when the character's mouth close.

"According to MMX The History of Anime in the Philippines, Actually, anime and its influence were already present at that time in Philippine TV. It’s just that we don’t notice it because of two reasons: We haven’t grasped the idea of anime yet, and that the anime that we are watching is coming from an American title".

I believe in this statement, because I know that anime is already present here in the Philippines like me I considered myself  as an obsess to anime or also called as OTAKU in Japanese but I think that not only me who are obsessed with anime but also my friends. I can prove that because I have an observation.

"OTAKU", is a Japanese word meaning anime lover. Other people call you an Otaku once they know that you are an anime lover.

I also read this on the same article that,"There have been many animes that were being shown back in those days. Since at that time we had no idea on what anime looks like, we tend to see it as normal cartoons. I can’t recall all of those animes that were shown at that time but I do remember one by MMX".

I remember when the first time I watch an anime and this anime is Dragon-ball I was so amaze because the effect was so cool and I can't believe that the Japanese can easily make an anime that is so cool.

Also this photo represents one of my favorite anime. And it also represents how I strongly obsess or in love with anime.

The person in the image is Daisuke Ono, he is one of the best voice actor's on Japan. Also the voice of the characters that indicate to this image are all voices of Daisuke Ono as you can see there are also female character that he dubbed I think this is hard to do because he is a guy.

Therefore I can say that anime is very popular in the whole world because I know that it is all start at japan but see the anime traveled in different country like US, PHILIPPINES, KOREA, and etc.. And also I can say that anime is nothing without the dubbing. We should acknowledge the people behind that voice that makes the anime more lively and understandable.

BLOG POST #4:Anime Cosplay

How anime character can affect a person's personality? How do you compare an anime character to a real life person? Can anime inspire the viewers and make them turn into anime themselves? How can you compare anime to real life?

Base on my observation cosplaying is one of the habits of a typical anime addict, why? Because there are many cosplayer in different countries like America, Australia, Japan, Philippines, and etc.. Meaning anime cosplayer are popular all over the world. And cosplaying is not limited to the girls, there are also some guy whose a cosplayer.

Base on this article entitled "The Life of a Cosplayer by Jessica Romero", Cosplay is a short term for costume play. It is a kind of activity that you need to use costume and accessories to be able to look like the anime character that you want to portray then go to an Anime Convention where you can showcase your anime looks. The cosplayer can get the character that he/she want to portray depending on the kind of manga, anime, comic books, video-games or films that he/she like. In her article she also mentioned three person whose been in the Cosplay industry for three years and how they know find they're passion in cosplaying.

The article also mentioned some bad effect of cosplaying. One of it is some cosplayer wear revealing clothes which invites some pervert that wants to harass them but the Cosplay industry has already taken action to avoid these things.

The internet has also greatly affected the life of the cosplayers because they can communicate easily using it, they can create social network groups, forum and post some events with a free website.

Watching an anime is really enjoying to the point that we want to copy the personality of the anime that we're watching. It inspired us to be like them because sometimes anime character are much cooler the real people. Like me, I like anime, and my favorite anime character is Naruto. Because of his funny attitude and also he is so cool I want to be like him. Other than that he can do impossible things like walking in the water, cloning himself and his line that can touch every mans heart. I really adore him because he's such a powerful ninja with a kind heart. I always wanted to be like him even though I know Naruto is just an anime character. And because I always wanted to be like him, I decided to join Cosplay! But I couldn't, why? It's because the costumes are too costly and it takes a lot of time to prepare and that disappoints me. But it is my dream and I believe that someday I would be able to portray Naruto in a Cosplay Convention and win some price because of it.

It is okay to like anime and even portray your favorite character but we must know to limit ourselves because to much liking can lead to addiction and once your addicted to something if will be hard to remove it. We must still know our priority and that studying. Study comes first then family and then our hobbies it can be watching anime or reading mangas.

BLOG POST #3: Video Games

Video gaming is an interaction of a host player playing electronic games via video device. Most of us are addicted at playing video games in fact, our generation is prone to play video games due to the sudden rise of technology. Video games are suited to play by children, teenagers, parents, and even elderly people. I do believe that there will come a time where everyone has their own set of consoles and just stay inside of their houses playing their own video games, but in the contrary, I'd rather play outside and play with my friends like the old times. Video games are commonly based on animated characters. The concepts of most video games came from animated cartoons but one must question whether video games are safe enough for children to know the difference between good or bad?

An article entitled, "Can Video Games Cause Violence?" by Romeo Vitelli in http://www.psychologytoday.com states that video games, most specially those that consist of violent actions, has a great deal to influence the minds of the players. Just like for example, in the Columbine High School Massacre in 1999, family members had sued 25 video game companies that invented "Doom", who they believe, are responsible for the massacre wherein their game influenced the minds of the suspect. Furthermore, the research indicates that people who are addicted at playing video games tend to be more aggressive than those who doest play video games.

Game addiction doesn't always seem to be a bad habit, only if the player knows how to limit his/her addiction. According to an article entitled, "What is Computer and Video Game Addiction?"
in http://www.video-game-addiction.org, gaming addiction occurs when the addiction itself interferes with the players personal life or daily life style. It also said that most games allow players to behave very differently from their normal persona. Researchers are still having a debate whether game addiction is a mental disorder but for now, they are still in a point where gaming is just an addiction not a disorder.

The following are the symptoms of game addiction:

  • Most spare times are used on playing computer games.
  • Falling asleep in school
  • Falling behind with assignments
  • Worsening games
  • Choosing to play computer games rather than hanging out with actual friends
  • Dropping out of other schools
So in conclusion, whether you're a video game addict or an otaku, we should always remember when to limit our use. We should always keep in mind that we have more important things to do rather than being an addict in gaming so that we can learn to value our time with our friends, family, and for ourselves as well.

BLOG POST #2: ANIME ADDICT

I've been thinking why do people addicted to anime? Is it good or bad? Is it bad because it has some effect to the people whose addicted to it?

Based on the information that I gathered Anime is really addicting. And the best example to described this addiction are the people who call themselve as Otaku. Other example are the poeple who love cosplaying the anime character that they really like. Anyone who loves anime would probably agree with that statement. It was like falling in love.

There are some steps before you become a anime addict. First, you'll know the title. If it's quite catchy then you'll search for its plot or story flow. When you become interested enough, the addiction starts. You'll fall in love with the story as well as the characters. You will start to watch it every day thus you'll become addicted to it. There are some Otakus who buys CD or download every eposide of those certain anime just to watch it everyday. For the reason that most people whose addicted to anime are students. They need to study first before they can watch their favorite anime but there are some who neglected their studies just to watch their favorite anime which is the bad effect of it.

I had been reading a lot of articles but this article is one of my choices and this article entitled Why is Anime Addicting? By: Henry Hsieh because this article basically explain why people are becoming addicted to anime and it is also related to my article. I summarized his article and just got some thoughts of it:

Sad life is sad! if you are not watching those lovable and cute anime. But there are also many people who are addict to anime and we can prove that by saying that in a way of other people make anime as a center of their lives. Not only cigarettes and alcohol can be addicting, anime can be addicting too. People who are addicted to anime are can be called otaku, however, There are also who do nothing all day but watch anime, think about anime, When a person think
about anime, a person can do, is to watch and watch those anime. After that they are buying some stuff that related to anime. As we can see they're totally and undeniably addicted to anime and who can blame them? Anime is just about one of the most addicting things in the world. But what makes it so addicting?

Base on my experience pokemon is one of the anime that I considered myself as an addicted. Pokemon is one of the most famous anime in my childhood. I've been addicted to it since the first day that I saw it on television. Who would not love the adventure of Ash and his friends? The pokemons are really cute! Pikachu, Charmander and Cyndaquil are my most favorites among the other pokemons. Not only that, the story is quite unique too and tat what make it catchy. It portrays how the friendship between Ash and his friends with their pokemons lead them to victory. I was too engaged with watching animes that I didn't notice that my grades are gradually falling which is also a bad sign for being an anime addict. But unlike the others, I didn't become too depressed instead I did my best to correct that mistake and improve myself. I study harder and decreased the time allotted for watching anime just to save my falling grades.

Another article entitled Anime Addicts Satisfy Their Thirst With 'Evangelion Water Body' Bottles by Steve Levenstein this article is an example of being an anime addict. It is a bottle that form as a body of an anime.

Why do people need to make this kind of bottle??? What is the purpose of this? This is laziness.
In this article, it says that this bottle is an experimentation base on the body of there favorite anime.

I think this is not good to the people who are obsessed to anime, because instead of studying they're thinking of other stuff like how they can buy this kind of anime bottle who have the same figure of their favorite anime. You are just wasting you're money in those stuffs.

In my conclusion, watching or loving anie is not that bad if you know how to limit yourself. Remember, Do not make Anime as your life and forget the most special things in your life like your family and studies. Manage your time, like balancing the time you allotted for your study and for your watching anime.
